‘Landing a Green Job with Social Media’: Our #EUGreenWeek Partner Event

IMG 0110 copyAs part of EU Green Week, Sustainability Consult hosted its first side event, ‘Landing a Green Job with Social Media’.

18 participants joined Senior Consultant Bárbara Mendes-Jorge, who talked about how she was hired for her last three jobs thanks to social media and how it influenced her green career trajectory.

The interactive session saw attendees talk about their own experiences with using social media professionally.

Bárbara also provided her top tips for successfully leveraging social media for professional purposes:

1. Be strategic

Take the time to follow people that are active in your field and think carefully about who you should reach out to.

2. Be interactive

Engage with the people you are following. Start by liking and reposting their content before talking to them directly. If you are looking for a green job, shout it loud and clear.

3. Be clear

Decide what you will – and won’t – post about. Stick to these topics so that people you are trying to reach will interact with and follow you.

4. Have a newsworthy feed

Post about the news in your sector to boost interaction with those who may not be following you – even better if you add your opinion and insight to any updates.

5. Blog

Blog about your work and interests and use your blog to reach out to relevant people.

6. Live-tweet

Tweeting from events is a surefire way to raise your social media visibility. Follow Bárbara’s top five live-tweeting tips for successfully promoting your presence at an event.

Sustainability Consult would like to thank everyone who attended and wishes everyone good luck in looking for their next green job!
