Sustainability Consult Alumnus Wins Public Engagement Prize

Principal Public Engagement PrizeCongratulations to our former colleague Dr Ana Catarino for winning the Heriot-Watt University Principal's Public Engagement Prize! The prize recognises members of the academic community who go the extra mile to engage the public and share their passion for what they do.

Ana worked with Sustainability Consult from 2011 to 2014, before moving to Edinburgh, where she became a Marie Curie postdoctoral fellow and joined Native Scientist.

As the leader of the Edinburgh wing of Native Scientist, Ana helps promote multilingualism and science outreach. She received the Principal's Public Engagement Prize early-career award for her commitment and enthusiasm to communicating with audiences typically less engaged with science work.

The prize money will enable Ana to organise a one-off event bringing together international scientists and bilingual pupils in Edinburgh to talk about science. By providing young people with role-models from their own cultural backgrounds, Ana hopes to encourage students to aim for better educational achievements.

At Sustainability Consult, we understand the role of communications in creating engagement and we’re very proud to see one of our alumni inspiring ethnic minority pupils by sharing their enthusiasm for science.
