It’s Been a Busy Couple of Months! Lots of News from Our Clients

SC News NovemberThis autumn, our clients have been especially hard at work and we have sent out a record amount of press releases. We’re guessing you’ve been busy too and may have missed some updates, so here is a quick round-up which lets you know what happened in the last couple of months.

Braskem got its negative carbon footprint credentials strengthened thanks to an independent review by the Carbon Trust. Its bio-based I’m greenTM plastic is capturing CO2 during its lifecycle, meaning around 5 tonnes of CO2 are saved during the plastic manufacturing process.

Braskem also announced that it now joined the European network Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC) as a full member.

Other client Anellotech had an independent LCA review conducted by Jacobs Engineering Group, which confirmed that the company’s Bio-TCatTM technology reduces carbon emissions by 70-80% compared to petro-based counterparts. Anellotech is producing bio-based aromatics produced for plastics applications and biofuels.

Anellotech also confirmed significant progress in its Bio-TCatTM technology development programme and has begun planning for scale-up design and engineering of a commercial plant with its partners IFPEN and Axens.

It was a big month for Anellotech, who also featured in the 2018 Biofuels Digest 40 Hottest Transformative Technologies in the Advanced Bioeconomy where it ranked #15. Our clients Evolva and Reverdia also made it into the award, ranking in the #13 and #33 spots, respectively.

Turning our attention to the Nordics, we are very happy to announce that LineoTM by Stora Enso won two awards this autumn: ICIS’ Best Product Innovation’ Award and IChemE’s Innovative Product Award. This is Stora Enso’s third award this year for its commercial lignin offering, as LineoTM also won ‘Bio-Based Product of the Year’ back in March.

To conclude this round up, we want to highlight some European news: the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC) welcomed the European Commission’s update to its Bioeconomy Strategy. They considered the communication of this update timely, given the recent urgent call to action from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). BIC especially welcomed the focus on scaling-up the bio-based sectors.
