The Innovation Centre for biomaterials will host research, application, business development and strategic marketing under one roof.  By creating renewable solutions and products from second-generation biomass, such as wood, in order to replace fossil-based products, the centre is addressing societal problems such as climate change, increased urbanisation as well as water and land use issues.

Solvay subsidiary Advanced Biochemical Thailand Co., Ltd. (ABT) has received certification from the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) for the production of Epicerol®, a bio-based building block for renewable chemicals and resins.

The certificate covers the manufacture of bio-based epichlorohydrin (ECH), using Solvay’s innovative technology, from vegetable glycerol derived from biodiesel and oleochemical production.
